18th Annual Summer Celebration of the Arts, July 8, 2017, 11 am to 5 pm

On Saturday, July 8th, the Anderson Center in Red Wing, Minnesota, will host the 18th Annual Summer Celebration of the Arts festival from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  This summertime tradition is one of the premier arts festivals in the state and will showcase the work of over 100 artists, craftspeople, writers, and musicians.

The Summer Celebration of the Arts exhibition will feature artists from across the state and the region, and these works will be for sale.  Anderson Center artists also will open their studios for tours and demonstrations of their work, including glassblowing, pottery, printmaking, and silk dyeing.  Nationally recognized printmaker and Anderson Center board member, Steven Sorman, will be giving demonstrations of printing techniques in the Print Studio. Molly Kiefer, publisher of Tinderbox Press, is curating poetry and fiction readings featuring Leslie Adrienne Miller, Mona Power, and Danit Brown, a July artist resident at the Center, outside on the north lawn.

Artist vendors will be selling jewelry, books, dolls, outdoor garden sculpture, art prints, musical instruments, paintings, books, and more. Red Wing arts organizations will also be represented at the festival, such as the Sheldon Theatre, Red Wing Arts Association, and the Evening Star Quilters.

Music entertainment on the main stage will include Paul Sprawl and Steve Sullivan and the Factory.  Mary DuShane and Nick Jordan (The Moonlight Duo) and Mark Woerpel will perform in the historic barn. Lynn Dulak will be playing piano in the Anderson Center’s Permanent Collection Gallery.

This year’s festival will include a Kids Zone, featuring Bare Bones stilts, drumming with Mike Arturi and the Universal Music Center, tile making with Richard Spiller and the Pottery Museum of Red Wing, arts fun with ArtReach, henna tattooing by Linda Niebeling, and face painting by Christina Burawa.

Throughout the afternoon, golf cart and vintage WWII Jeep tours of the Center’s 8-acre Sculpture Garden will be available.  One of the largest open-air sculpture parks in the state, it boasts works by many of Minnesota’s finest sculptors, including Siah Armajani and Zoran Mojislov.

Guests can purchase food from the Le Chien Bleu throughout the afternoon.  Admission is free! Click here to view festival map in pdf.
